Aviation cargo & logistics

Air cargo has experienced a renaissance in the last several years because of skyrocketing international e-commerce along with enhanced consumer expectations and reduced oil prices. Despite favorable circumstances, sustained performance and an optimistic economic outlook, the air cargo industry does face challenges ahead. From evolving global trade tensions to continued pressure to embrace industry-wide digitalization, we need to update our strategies to secure our place at the global village.

New customs regulations, allocation of VAT taxation on the postal and e-commerce shipments, increase aviation safety and security standards will be on scope of the conference.

Infrastructure development

Soon, Latvian aviation infrastructure will face significant changes of the infrastructure capacity and range of the services available. Key projects, such as Rail Baltica, 6.stage terminal expansion of Riga airport terminal and new ATC tower will be game changers of the industry. Therefore, focus this workshop will be on two subjects: 1) Rail to air connectivity, and 2) Concept of transforming from City airport to Airport city.

Connectivity of aviation and tourism

It is obvious that aviation creates a solid flow of tourism. If a country promotes the development of new aviation destinations, there is a direct correlation to an increase in the number of visitors. There is a different approach to growth in existing markets and for catching “Moby Dick or The Whale” on long haul destinations, particularly for Latvia. The big question is: what are the tools available to reach the desired growth of the industry? To search for a common solution at this workshop, we will initiate a discussion among stakeholders (government, municipal authorities, tourism agencies, airlines and experts), measure their role in the value chain and define further goals for the increase of the contribution to the Latvian tourism industry.
